Obiettivi formativi

The whole master academic project of Agricultural Sciences, including the present course, is intended to interpret and manage complex agricultural productions. In this context, the course of GEOMATICS FOR SMART AGRICULTURE is aimed at providing basics of Geomatics, making students able to properly interact with surveyors and potentially be able to operate themselves on the field.  Geomatics includes: traditional survey, digital and traditional cartography, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), digital photogrammetry, satellite positioning (GNSS), statistics of error and basics of optical remote sensing (agricultural applications). Theoretical aspects will be coupled with an operative approach especially concerning traditional survey and digital maps management within GIS. Geomatics skills are aimed at survey, representation and analysis of territory at both landscape and local scale. The course belongs to the knowledge area of the Agricultural Engineering.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

At the end of the course students will possess theoretical and operative skills concerning:

 digital maps (vector and raster) interpretation and management;

  • basics of GIS
  • topographic survey (3D) even included technical instruments;
  • Processing of measures by statistics (direct, indirect and redundant measurements)
  • Aerial digital photogrammetry
  • Basics of optical remote sensing for agriculture with special regards about spectral vegetation indices.
  • GNSS positioning, included measurement strategies and possible accuracies.

These skills are intended to make students able to propose proper solutions for territory surveying, representation and analysis at both landscape and local scale.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Students will:

  • interpret, manage and process geographical digital within a GIS
  • operate and solve surveys by ordinary topographic instruments and GNSS receivers
  • program and design flight plans for photogrammetric acquisitions by UAV and airplane
  • interpret multispectral imagery and spectral indices for qualifying soils and vegetation

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT

It is expected that students will be able to interact with surveyors and service sellers to properly address their operations for survey and better interpret results.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Students will:

  •  improve their communication skills
  •  improve analytical skills through data processing and integration
